Everyone has an opinion, and these days opinions are taking charge of the floor over facts. Gone are the days where information was unbiasedly passed on. Gone are the days where truth was objective rather than subjective. News is sculpted to fit the feelings, oblivion and trauma of target audiences.
When we are being fed information that fits into our way of thinking we barely think twice about whether it’s true or not. I mean, why would we question things that already concur with our comfortable way of life? I love my life and this information doesn’t contradict it, so I go with it. It’s all very convenient and comfortable, but it is dangerous.
I found myself in the midst of a discussion the other day and a piece of information was presented. With as crazy as this world has been, it was easy to accept the information as truth. However, upon further investigation, I came to the understanding that, that piece of information was actually incorrect. Even though it was highly likely to be true, it was not the truth. How easy it would be to pass this information on and have it to continue to spread.
The Bible says in, 2 Timothy 2:15, that we are to “study to show ourselves approved unto God” and there is no shame in “rightly dividing the word of truth”. It is good to trust people, but we shouldn’t go through life taking everyone’s word for it. Yes, there will be occasions where it will not be the time or place to question the information we are given, but it is our duty to consider the things we let into our hearts and verify the things we pass on to others. The Holy Spirit will surely guide us in the things that we should question and the things we should accept.
Let us not be eager to believe things, because of how well it jives with our current feelings or way of life. Feelings change and so does life, but the truth is forever the same.
